If you are a regular reader of my blog, which I’m sure nobody is since I’ve only told two people about it, then you know I like taping gear. You also know that I had a special cable made for my Denecke PS-2 cable mod. The cable will reach nicely from my back pocket to my front shirt pocket. Darktrain, a cable-maker, on the Taperssection forum made me a beautiful cable, but indicated that mini-xlr can’t be done as a right angle stubbie. Drats. I sure wish it could. If you notice in the picture below, the cable coming out of the PS-2 needs more space than I want to give. So, what do I do? Can a mini-xlr right angle stubbie be made to accomodate me? Or am I going to have to deal with it?
As you can see, coming out of there adds some length to my set-up that I’d prefer not to have.
Then I started to think after looking at some of Darktrain’s other cables that I might be able to get around this issue by purchasing some interconnects. At least, in my mind, that would work. So, the interconnects would be my bridge between the PS-2 and the mics because the new mics I want have XLR’s that look huge.
I just don’t think those connectors plugged into the PS-2 with the mini-xlr on the other side are going to work for me. So, I wonder if purchasing interconnects, something like this:
would allow me to go from the xlr’s on the Nevatons to the XLR in’s on the PS-2. If I got these as stubbies (can both sides be made like that?) then I could do some sort of two pocket method. which should work just fine.
Here is what they would go to Nevatons > Interconnects > PS-2 .
I’ll have to send Darktrain here to see if he thinks that would work. I wonder how much a cable like that costs?
So, The Virgins are back in town tomorrow night and it looks like I may be stuck in Poulsbo. The weather here has been crazy cold and the snow that has fallen still hasn’t melted. Normally, I’m the type of guy that laughs off all of the repeated warnings to stay inside unless you have to travel, but maybe I’m growing up.
If you have watched the news at all about the roads in Seattle, than you’ve noticed that many of them are closed or near impossible to traverse safely. It doesn’t help that the Chop Suey is situated up in Capital Hill and for me to get there from the ferry, I’d have to travel up all the main hills. Even after I pick up Ryan, I’d still have to get off of I-5 and then up into the Capital Hill area. I just don’t think it is going to happen.
I think Ryan has already decided that a concert tomorrow night might be too dangerous as well. Maybe The Virgins will decide to cancel tomorrow night and give us a refund or reschedule. Shoot. Could be a good show.
I was introduced to Mono In VCF about 18 months ago. They were chosen by Jarvis Cocker to open his show at the Showbox. Ryan and I kind of liked them and eventually sent some emails to their bassist Jordan.
Since then, I’ve tried to catch as many of their shows as I can. It isn’t always easy, but I try. Last night they played at Hell’s Kitchen in Tacoma. It was a Friday night and I decided to head down. I tried to time it so that I would only catch the last two bands, but I managed to catch three of the band.
The Painkillers were Ok. During their set a bunch of people started showing up in Santa outfits. I guess they were on some Santa bar-hopping thing. I kind of felt like I should have had my Santa suit on. It was pretty funny.
Umber sleeping was up next and I’m not quite sure how I would describe them. There myspace site has this listed as: New Wave/Psychedlic/Progressive. They sure were a mashing of a different styles. Not bad.
I’ve put up a clip of one of Mono’s new songs. I first heard this one (I think) at the Java Jive a few months back, but the new songs showed some real maturity last night. I dug this one because of the semi-jam at the end. Jordan had some massive bass hook going and Hunter was playing a wall of sound. It’s the last few minutes of the song.
OK. So, it has been more than a week since I’ve been on here. The thing is, when I logged into my admin panel, it was telling me to update wordpress to the new version. So, I panicked and didn’t update my wordpress install nor did I even post. I had a few minutes before heading out to Torsten’s indoor soccer game and decided to bite the bullet and upgrade. I followed the back-up instructions and updated my site. I was more nervous about the whole process than I needed to be. It was pretty easy.
I have to admit that WordPress does a nice job of providing “how-to’s” for just about everything. Way to go.
I’m starting to get ready for a new taping set-up. I haven’t been 100% happy with my tapes lately and know that I can do better. I really want to run DPA4022′s, but that will likely never happen due to cost. So, I want to build a rig that runs Nevaton MCE 400′s>Aerco MP2>iRiver. The Aerco MP2 probably isn’t happening any time soon, so I’m thinking of going Nevaton MCE 400′s>Denecke PS2 (cable mod)>iRiver. Here’s a pic of my new cable.
So, here’s Torsten’s new haircut. As you can see he is looking a bit dismayed due to some bad choices that he made today. His haircut was a bit more styling last night at the band concert.
As you can tell, I love doing dishes. Notice that big smile on my face. Does it get any better than this?
Torsten and I got haircuts last night. I thought it was strange that Torsten wanted a haircut since he told his friends at indoor lacrosse that we forced him to cut his hair last time. Maybe he was trying to look good for his band concert last night. I don’t know. I haven’t had my hair this short in a long time.
I’ve been thinking of blogging for a while or setting up a website again. I really wanted to get a grasp on Dreamweaver, but I don’t seem to have the time, energy, or artistic ideas to do something interesting. I didn’t want to do a blogspot, since I have my own webspace/host provider. So, here I am with an attempt at WordPress. Talk about an easy installation. I couldn’t believe how easy it was.
My plan is to get on here once a week. I’m sure nobody will read it, but at least I’ve started.
